Metal Swing Set Frame
the math of a swing set?
I am hoping to build or have built a swing set for my family. The buy and build kits are puny and useless by age 5. My grandpa built a swing when my mom was little that still stands to this day and is big enough that you will never out grow it. Literally the set is about 20 feet tall and my grandparents still use it to this day. I need to know the math of a swing set (degree of angles for maximum support also how to tell maximum distance from center the swing itself will go).
My grandpa has Alzheimer’s and can’t remember how he built his and I can’t take measurements from his because I want a smaller one (around 8-12feet) but not as small as store bought and I’m not sure how to work the formula to downsize it. Math is not my best subject but all I will need to do is draw the plans. I have a friend that will build it for me. Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. I plan to use a metal frame (more durable and lasts longer)
Take exact measurements of Grandpa’s swing set and use a set % number to multiply each with.
Example: If the top piece is 14′ long, then multiply it by…let’s say 50%.
So each equation would be like this: 14′ x .50 = 7′
As far as the angles go, instead of using the “law of cosines” to figure them out, just use the set % number on each piece and the angles will be the same.
