How do you clean maple tree sap off of commercial playground equipment?
We have just had a large commercial playground installed between some beautiful shade trees that lie between a church and school. The committee and administration had no idea that these beautiful trees would drip sap all over the brand new playground making it impossible to use without constant cleaning. A kindergarten child slid half-way down and went head first when they became stuck in the sap. The monkey bars are also a problem. The school/church needs an economical way to clean the equipment without chopping down the trees, if possible, and without causing damage or toxicity to the playground or the children’s clothing.
Try using a product called Goof Off. If the equipment is plastic or painted test an area that is inconspicuous to make sure that the product will not damage the finish. Once the sap is gone use soap and water to clean the area of any residue from the chemical. Also try using a chewing gum remover. Goof Off also works great at removing permanent marker graffiti.
