Swing Set Ladder
How challenging do you think building a tree house would be? Just a good ole basic tree house.?
Our yard is filled with trees, so I think finding the perfect spot could be pretty easy. I don’t want it too high since the kids are young. I was thinking no more that 5 X 5, unless it wouldn’t be harder to go bigger. High enough to hang a tire swing under and to have a ladder going up to it. I want it to have a roof, but the window areas could just be open air.
My husband has been planning to do this for 3 years and me and the kids are sick of waiting. How challenging do you guess this would be? I’m pretty handy and we have a basement full of tools and scrap wood. I guess my biggest concern is how challenging it would be to work off the ground on a ladder. I’m worried that this may not be a one woman show. What’s your opinion? Could I do it on my own or am I setting myself up to fail? I see many free plans online, so I’m sure I could find something suitable.
Ideas and thoughts?
Not to be chauvanistic this is not a one woman job or even a one man job.
Go to sleep thinking your way through it from the beginning.
How will I carry the timber up the ladder, where will I put it, where will I put the tools, where shall I stand or kneel to saw and nail, how will I attach it to the tree.
If you fall and break something, how will you manage? we all laugh at ‘risk assessment’ but I’m sure ths is a job for an insured handyman. He will be willing to use your own materials but it might be cheaper to buy the sizes needed than for him to convert the scrap in your basement. Hubby has the right idea, if you plan it for long enough the children will have outgrown the idea. Some tradesmen add a supplement for working upstairs, it is time consuming and tiring. If you have a like-minded friend it will be far easier. Good luck and don’t fall down of the job.
