Swing Set Older Kids
What is the best gravel/mulch to place under a kids climber or swing set?
Wood chips, Rubber mulch, pea gravel? what should i put under the climber in our backyard of my home daycare. This will be accessible to children as young as 12 months old.
i am in canada so i dont think there are any laws for childcare regarding what to have under climbers.
I like rubber mulch because it’s “softer” that wood. Also, it doesn’t attract insects like some woods can. But it doesn’t decompose. Some people consider this as an advantage, but if it gets outside the area where you want it and into grass, it can be a real nuisance and very hard to remove after awhile.
Another option is recycled tire mats or pads. http://www.rbrubber.com/ as example. Yes its a tad bit more expensive, requires more prepwork – however it forms into a solid surface that will not move around, will not spread out into the lawn and could be pulled up and moved
